Justice Karmeier has participated in 63 civil cases since taking his seat primarily involving constitutional law issues.  He has voted for defendants 36 times, and against defendants in 27 cases.  Between 2005 and 2012, he voted for defendants in 25 cases and against them in only 8.  Since that time, he has voted for defendants in only 11 of 30 cases.

Justice Karmeier has participated in 34 civil constitutional law cases won by the defendants at the Appellate Court.  He has voted to affirm those decisions 20 times, voting to reverse, at least in part, in 14 cases.  Between 2005 and 2012, Justice Karmeier voted to affirm in 16 cases and to reverse in 5 cases.  Between 2013 and 2019, he voted to affirm only four times in thirteen cases.

Between 2005 and 2012, Justice Karmeier participated in twelve civil constitutional law cases lost by the defendants below.  He voted to reverse in nine of those twelve cases.  Between 2013 and 2019, Justic3e Karmeier voted to reverse seven defendants’ losses and voted to affirm ten times.
